st mary’s church, whitby

St Mary’s Church on the East Cliff, Whitby. The church was originally constructed in 1110 for use of the Abbey workers. The church survived the Dissolution of the Monasteries, begun in 1536 by Henry VIII, but the second Abbey (built in the 1070s) was not so fortunate.
