Salinas de Janubio

Salinas de Janubio

A drive by shot of Salinas de Janubio, an industrial salt plant in south-west Lanzarote. Water from the adjacent lagoon (Laguna de Janubio) is pumped into the rectangular salt pans where the extraction process takes place. Apparently this place once used to produce 10,000 tonnes of salt per year, but demand has declined and now production is around 2,000 tonnes. Despite its industrial nature, it’s surprisingly picturesque.

  1. Great image, Stevie. There’s one I visited on Fuerteventura – out in the middle of nowhere and a long walk, but worth it for the views and, as you mention, ‘industrial’ scenery.
