Dolbadarn Castle

The ruins of Dolbadarn Castle, idyllically situated on a hilltop above the glacial lake of Llyn Padarn near Llanberis in Wales.

It was built by Llywelyn the Great at the beginning of the 13th century and captured by Edward I in 1284 during his conquest of Wales. Subsequently, after being used as manor house up until the 14th century, it was abandoned and fell into ruin.

Famously, it was painted by JMW Turner in 1800.
