I liked how the room looked lit up by the bedside lamp so I set up my tripod and took some shots.

There’s something very nicely filmic about this shot. I can imagine some Southern Gothic scene about to kick off…
That’s how I felt about it. Though for me it evokes classic David Lynch – the way he manages to make the most familiar and safe of locations into something a little sinister by way of lighting and sound.
Yes, I can see that. The lighting is very like how I remember Eraserhead and Blue Velvet.
I agree with Richard – there’s a definite cinematic feel about it… Not sure about the position of the lamp and the picture, though.. Takes ‘Does my bum look big in this?’ to a WHOLE new level! 🙂
